The Gondor Quilt Pattern

When I thought up this quilt pattern, I was inspired by the traditional English Paper Piecing (EPP) design. I wanted a classic geometric design featuring hexagons and triangles. I wanted it to be insanely versatile. I wanted it to be able to be bold and geometric or look scrappy using fat quarters, or scrappy because it was made using actual scraps. I wanted to be able to use fat quarters and yardage together. I wanted to be able to make even a king sized quilt. I wanted this quilt to be everything and anything. I am extremely pleased with the result, I hope you feel like you could make anything with this pattern.

Tammi Quilt Collection

The Gondor Quilt is the second quilt pattern in the Tammi Quilt Collection. The Tammi Quilt Collection is a series of machine sewn patterns inspired by English Paper Piecing (EPP). This quilt pattern has no EPP, FPP, or y-seams. It is entirely machine sewn.

Versions & Sizes

There are three versions of this quilt pattern: modern (yardage), fat quarter version, and scrappy version. You can also mix and match the versions. What does that mean?

  • Example 1 – You could use fat quarters for the hexagons and yardage for the triangles.
  • Example 2 – yardage for the hexagons and scraps for the triangles.

The pattern is written so that you can literally make this quilt how ever you want.

There are four sizes included for this quilt: baby, throw, twin, & king. The blocks do not get bigger when the quilt size increases, you get more blocks. This means that if want to make the quilt slightly smaller or larger it is very easy to do so.

Twin sized fat quarter version.

Difficulty Level

This is an advanced beginner level pattern. If you have made a triangle quilt before it will help, but it is by no means necessary.

While making this pattern I realized that a lot of people have questions and concerns about matching up corners/points when sewing a quilt with triangles like this. As a result, I decided to include a ‘Tips for Perfect Corners’ section within the pattern. It is a two page long section with pictures and specific tangible methods to help. I truly believe if you have made at least 2-3 quilts and utilize this section, you should be good to make this quilt.

I mean look at those points, clearly I know what I am talking about. 😉

Fabric Requirements

The fabric requirements for the fat quarter version and the modern (yardage) version are below. The information for scraps is within the pattern.

Summary

I will do follow up blog posts about all three quilts I made (one for each version):

I hope this answered all of your questions about my upcoming pattern and that you are feeling inspired. The pattern is now available here.
