Arwen Quilt Pattern

The Arwen Quilt is the first quilt in the Tammi Quilt Collection. A machine pieced quilt pattern series inspired by English Paper Piecing (EPP).

This pattern was an idea that turned into many drawings while trying figure out the best way to construct the shapes I had envisioned. Once I figured out a plan, it evolved into a lot of geometric calculations. I may owe my geometry teacher an apology. Or a thank you. I definitely owe her something.

Once I was pretty sure I had the math figured out, I threw open the doors on my cabinet all dramatic like and was like “who of you volunteers for a task of utmost importance?” I grabbed a coveted FQ set from Bonnie Christine called Her & History. It just felt right.

I started cutting into the fabric and got about 3 FQ in and was like “uhhh Hayley, how confident are you in this math?” Overly confident me “I defeated geometry! Don’t doubt me!”

I can feel you expecting me to tell you that things went wrong and fabric was wasted and tears were shed. That’s not what happened. I really had defeated geometry. Gosh guys, have some confidence in me.

Things went great! I even asked my husband for his impeccable fabric opinion (seriously, this guy has an eye for color) and he suggested a light grey instead of a white for the hexagons. He was so right.

I love the finished color scheme. I feel like it is the perfect pattern for coveted Bonnie Christine Fabric. This may be favorite quilt pattern to date.

Then came the time to name it. I was at a lost. Rather unlike me. I was asking Arwen (my loyal corgi) what I should name it. I mean she was there during the whole process. Laying next to me while I drafted it. Sitting by me while I conquered geometry. Laying under my sewing table while I sewed the quilt pattern. So I laid the quilt top out and asked her what she thought I should name it. She laid on top of it and starred at me. I decided that she deserved her own quilt and own quilt pattern. She’s a good dog. The Arwen Quilt it is. The quilt named after the dog named after a Lord of the Rings character.
