Hexie Flower Sew-a-long

I am hosting a hexie flower SAL. I will release a theme on Instagram every week and you make two hexie flowers based on that theme. The goal is to do this for every week for fifty weeks to make a total of 100 hexie flowers. You can make more or less hexie flowers, finish your quilt in a different way, skip a theme, etc. Everything is a loose guideline.

This is a great project to start with if you are new to EPP.

The plan for the quilt is to applique all 100 of the hexie flowers onto background squares. After playing around with 1” hexie flowers on background squares, I think 6.5” background squares is the way to go. You can use 7” squares if you want your quilt to be a bit bigger, without having to make more hexagons.

If you make 100: 1” hexie flowers and applique them onto 6.5” background squares, the final quilt will be 60” x 60”. Make sure to think about your background fabric before you start making hexie flowers (i.e. if you want a solid white background, you might not want to make a hexie flower with a solid white outer.)

The SAL will start on August 16, 2020. There is no formal sign up for this SAL. I will be posting the weekly themes on Instagram.

Please use the SAL hashtag: #hexieflowersal and be sure to tag me @springdaisystitchery for any Instagram posts you make so that anyone who wants to join knows where to go. Also, be sure to write what week your post is for (Ex. Week 1) in your post so that we can admire your theme interpretation.

Every four weeks I will do a blog post for the last four weeks of the hexie flower sew-a-long themes (Ex. on the fourth week I will do a blog post for weeks 1-4). If you miss a week, start the project late, or don’t have an Instagram, you can use these posts.

I look forward to seeing you there. Happy Sewing.

  1. Hi – I am very ignorant what concerns media stuff … how would I receive your messages on Instagram ? or how can I you to your insta ? thank you !

    1. Hi! The theme is a post on my Instagram feed every Sunday. So you can see the theme every week (or past weeks) there. I am going to do a blog post every four weeks to document the past themes for anyone who joins late. So if you can’t figure out Instagram, but still want to join, you can just look for the blog post every four weeks (you will be a bit behind, but it will still work). Does this help?
