Hexie Flower SAL- The Community Quilt

I started the Hexie Flower SAL in August of 2020. We were in the thick of the pandemic. I was at home and I couldn’t leave. I am a teacher and school got delayed. Summer was extended. I was lost and depressed. I felt really really alone.

On a whim I came up with the Heixe Flower SAL idea and kind of just went for it. I honestly didn’t expect anyone to really follow along and participate. Y’all did though. It gave me something to look forward to every week when I did not feel like I had anything to look forward to. I know that it did this for some of y’all too.

We just started week 40 of 50 and I realized that we are almost done. I am honestly sad about this. Doing the SAL with y’all made me not feel alone during the pandemic. I was in a group with all of you instead of being alone. I know I will have my quilt to remember this event by, and I really do LOVE my quilt, but I got the idea for a community quilt yesterday. I thought we could do a community quilt where we contribute blocks to represent this time and our group.

This is feels like a lot to ask of someone. I understand how much time and work goes into making these blocks. I hesitated even asking this of any of you because it felt incredibly rude, but I decided to go ahead and ask. Since this is optional, I hope you are not offended by the humble request.

Again, this is optional and entirely up to you whether or not you want to participate. If you wish to participate, there are more details below.

Expectations of Spring Daisy Stitchery

  • I will credit your block(s) to you.
    • I will do a blog post with all the blocks.
    • I will post them to my Instagram stories.
    • I will include a name &/or Instagram handle if provided by you.

Block Requirements

  • A hexie flower made up of 1″ hexies appliqued onto a 6.5″ square of fabric
    • The hexie flower and the background square it is appliqued to does not have to follow a theme, be a specific color, or have any specific fabric requirements. The purpose of this quilt is to represent our Hexie Flower SAL community and I think the best way to do that is without any style restrictions.
      • With that said, I feel like the Hexie Flower SAL really put the ‘quirk’ in ‘quirky’ hexie flowers (uh – why have we not made this a hashtag yet?????) so the quirky fabric is always welcome.
    • The hexie flower can be appliqued on in any way that you wish – hand appliqued, needle turn applique, machine appliqued, etc. There are no requirements.
  • Please include your name &/or Instagram handle with your block so I can credit you. Let me know if you would prefer this information to not be shared.
  • Send one or more blocks in the mail to me. My mailing address is below:
    • Hayley Springer
    • PO BOX 142
    • Sanger TX, 76266
  • Timeline: I will be accepting blocks starting when I make this post on 6/15/2021. I will update here when I close the accepting of blocks because I have started construction of the quilt top.

Summary

If you choose to send in a block or blocks, I will credit you. I will also love and cherish the block and quilt forever. This SAL really meant a lot to me guys.
