Rivendell Quilt A Long!

Sign up here!

The Rivendell Quilt A Long (QAL) is here! I am SO excited. It has a chill schedule, ideal even for the busiest of people. It will have helpful videos, tricks, and tips. It is the perfect time to learn EPP, applique, or 4-at-a-time flying geese. Don’t be scared of learning something new, I literally teach high schoolers chemistry all day. If I can do that, I can totally teach y’all this (especially since y’all actually want to learn this stuff).

The QAL schedule will be to make a lap sized (56″ x 56″) quilt, but the schedule can be easily altered to make a baby sized (40″ x 40″) or a large lap quilt (76″ x 76″). I am actually considering making a large lap version for the QAL myself, I have been wanting an epic massive snuggly burrito quilt.

Rivendell Quilt Pattern

The Rivendell Quilt Pattern is a beginner level pattern that combines machine piecing, English Paper Piecing (EPP), and applique. Because there are a limited number of EPP blocks, it is the PERFECT quilt pattern to try EPP with. Seriously, if you have been considering trying EPP, now is the time! The 1″ EPP hexagons are the most classic and popular EPP shape so you can turn around and easily use them again for other projects, if you find out you love EPP.

It is also one of the fastest EPP projects that I know of that you can complete that results in a whole quilt top, so even seasoned EPP lovers may find it to be an irresistible pull. This also means that the project is not a huge commitment, which is great for people new to EPP (or people with a million EPP projects already).

There is a modern (yardage) version and a fat quarter version with fabric requirements included. It is extremely FQ fabric stash friendly. If you want to dip into your 1″ hexie stash, it is a great pattern to do so with.

Find a blog post with more information about the Rivendell Quilt Pattern itself here.

What is a Quilt A Long (QAL)?

Every week an email will go out to participants for the stage we are in the QAL. The email will include video tutorials, links to blog posts and other helpful information, tips and tricks, and my own progress in the QAL. Basically everything anyone (including a novice to EPP or applique, or someone with only a quilt or so under their belt) will need to complete the quilt top and not be afraid to do so.

You follow the schedule above and post your progress to Instagram every week. Follow the instructions on my QAL Instagram posts to be eligible for the weekly giveaways by our awesome sponsors.

Schedule

The QAL is 9 weeks long from May 1st to July 3rd. It is not starting until May, so that everyone has plenty of time to track down and fabric or supplies that they need. I tried to make it long enough that someone with a full time job & family obligations, can participate while still working on other projects. The time line is supposed to be chill and all inclusive for even the busiest person.
